Trained in all aspects of adult cardiac disease with a specialist interest in coronary angioplasty, rotablation and percutaneous valve placement. UK Director of Training for Rotational Atherectomy.
Previous Council Member of British Cardiovascular Interventional Society UK Previous Member of NICE Interventional Guideline Committee. Primary Investigator of numerous clinical trials occurring at the Sussex Cardiac Centre.

 





 
Dr Rachael James MD, BSc, FRCP
Trained in London and was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist in Brighton 2004. Lead Consultant for echocardiography (British Society of Echocardiography, BSE) accredited for adult transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, European Association of Echocardiography accredited in paediatric and congenital heart disease echocardiography). Senior BSE cardiology examiner for transoesophageal echo. Special interests include endocarditis, valve disease, adult congenital heart disease and heart disease in pregnancy.

Cardiology assessor for the UK confidential enquiry into maternal deaths (MBRRACE). Co-chair for the Sussex Heart Charity. London and was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist in Brighton 2004.


 

Dr Sean O'Nunain MD, MA, FRCP
Qualified from Trinity College Dublin, 1979. General Cardiology training Papworth Hospital, Cambridge. Subspeciality training in management of cardiac arrhythmias including interventional electrophysiology, St George’s Hospital London.
Fellowship in Interventional Electrophysiology Massachussetts General Hospital, Boston.
Teaching faculty Harvard Medical School. Previously Head  of Electrophysiology, Kings College Hospital.
Consultant Cardiologist providing a regional service for Sussex based at RSCH since 1998, specialising in all aspects of diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.
Special areas of interest,: radiofrequency ablation of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, complex device therapy for cardiac arrhythmias including ICDs and biventricular pacing.

Dr David Hildick-Smith MD MRCP
Director of Cardiac Research Unit, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Appointed Consultant Cardiologist in Brighton in 2002.
Special interests include:
     Transradial coronary angiography and stenting
     Closure of patent foramen ovale and atrial setpal defects
    Valvuloplasty and percutaneous valvular implants
     Biventricular pacemakers

Member of NICE Interventional Procedures Panel.

Dr Sue Ellery
Trained in Cardiology and General Medicine in London and the South Thames.
Appointed as Consultant Cardiologist (Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust) in April 2010.
Lead Consutlant across the Trust in Heart Failure and Device Therapy.
Working across both sites (RSCH & PRH) with a specialist heart failure clinic at the Princess Royal Hospital.
from Southampton University 1995.
Special areas of interest are heart failure management and pacing, in particular biventricular pacing and ICDs.

Qualified from Southampton University 1995.

Subspecialty training in coronary Intervention at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London and Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

Dr Nalyaka Sambu MD MRCP
Qualified from Cardiff University in 2000. 
Trained in Cardiology on the Wessex Deanery Rotation.
MD Research in platelet function testing in cardiovascular disease.Subspecialty training in coronary intervention at Southampton University Hospitals Trust and Interventional Fellowship at the Dorset Heart Centre, Bournemouth.
Appointed Consultant Cardiologist (Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust) in October 2013. Working across both sites (RSCH and PRH).
Trained in all aspects of adult cardiology with a special interest in coronary intervention, including rotational atherectomy, laser coronary angioplasty and chronic total occlusions. 




 

Dr Vicky Parish
Qualified from University of Nottingham 1999.  
Trained in cardiology in London and South Thames with sub specialty training in advanced cardiac imaging.  
MD research completed at King’s College London, cardiac MRI in congenital heart disease.  
Appointed as consultant cardiologist at Brighton and Sussex university hospitals in 2013.  
Trained in all aspects of cardiology with special interest in cardiac imaging (echo, CT and MRI), adult congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension.   
Lead consultant for advanced cardiac imaging and pulmonary hypertension.  




 

Dr John Silberbauer MA MD(Res) MRCP
Trained in medicine and cardiology in Cambridge and London.  
MD Research in pacemaker function, atrial fibrillation and cardiac catheter ablation. 
Subspecialty interventional electrophysiology fellowships at King’s College Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital, London. Advanced electrophysiology European Heart Rhythm Association Fellowship, specialising in ventricular tachycardia  ablation San Raffaele Hospital, Milan, Italy 2012-13.

Dr Steve Coombs
Qualified from University College London 2004.  
Trained in cardiology at London and Kent, Surrey and Sussex hospitals, plus complex device fellowship at Brighton NHS Trust.  
Research interests in ultrafiltration and cardiac resynchronisation therapy.
Appointed as consultant cardiologist at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals in June 2016.  
Trained in all aspects of adult cardiology with special interest in heart failure, devices and device extraction.   
Special areas of interest: cardiac resynchronisation therapy, subcutaneous ICD, leadless pacing and laser device extraction.
