Specialist interests include surgery for atrial fibrillation (including minimally invasive), and end-organ effects of cardiopulmonary bypass.

Trained in all aspects of Cardiothoracic Surgery, with a current practice comprising all forms of adult cardiac surgery. Local lead for Grown up Congenital Heart disease surgery.
Specialist interests include surgery for atrial fibrillation and evolving technology aortic valve surgery.






Mr Uday H Trivedi BSc(Hons), MBBS, FRCs(C-Th), FECTS
Clinical Lead – Department of Cardiac Surgery
Qualified: St Bartholomew’s Hospital 1986. I undertook my post-graduate cardiac surgical training in London at the Brompton, St Mary’s, Harefield, St Thomas’ and King’s Hospitals. I was appointed as a Consultant in 1998 in Brighton. I perform all aspects of adult cardiac surgery with specialist interests in beating heart surgery, mitral valve repair, minimal access cardiac surgery and percutaneous aortic & mitral valve procedures. I live in Hove with my wife and two daughters. I enjoy golf in my free time.






Mr Amit P. Modi. MB BS, MRCS, FRCS(C-Th)

Trained in Birmingham and Southampton and appointed as Consultant Cardiac Surgeon in Brighton in 2016
Trained on all aspects of cardiothoracic surgery, with a current practice comprising all forms of adult cardiac surgery with the exception of tranplantation.
Special interests include aortic surgery, minimally invasive aortic valve surgery and outcomes research.



Ishtiaq Ahmed

Mr Ishtiaq Ahmed. BSc(Hons), MBChB, PhD, FRCS (C-Th)
Consultant Cardiac Surgeon
Ishtiaq Ahmed is a British, UK, Australian and European trained surgeon who performs all aspects of adult cardiac surgery including revascularisation, valve reconstruction and surgery for atrial fibrillation. He has a specialist interest in Mitral Valve repair and Minimal access techniques for all valve surgery. He has a high volume mitral practice with a repair rate of over 95% for degenerative mitral valve lesions which include complex bi leaflet prolapse, Barlows valves and infective endocarditis.
He has been awarded multiple fellowship awards by the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (UK) and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. This enabled him to train with world class surgeons in Brussels and Lyon (Dr Hugo Vanerman and Professor Obadia) to facilitate his expertise in mitral valve surgery. He has been invited to speak about the benefits of Mitral surgery and Minimal Access techniques on a national level.
