Pre-Assessment Clinic

The pre-assessment service is made up of two pre-assessment Sisters. We will see you in clinic before you see the Surgeon.
In your clinic appointment with us we will take some observations, go through the pre-assessment nformation form that you completed before seeing us, take some information from you including social history, medication, dental history, MRSA history, anaesthetic history and depression score. We will also undertake a lung function test called spirometry. You will be given some information to take away with you regarding your surgery and you will have the opportunity to watch a short 10 minute surgical video regarding the operation.

If you are awaiting a valve operation you must see your dentist beforehand so it is advisable to book an appointment as soon as possible.
Whilst at clinic we will also ask you to have a blood test, an ECG and a chest X-ray. This is to help the surgeon make the best possible decision regarding your care.
After you clinic appointment you may go onto the waiting list for surgery. If this is the case one of the Pre-Assessment Sisters will be managing your care whilst waiting for surgery. During this time you are welcome to contact us on 01273 696955 Ext 7423.

Please contact us if, whilst waiting for your surgery, you aware of any change in your symptoms or any of the following problems arise:

  • Cold/fever/rash
  • Coughing
  • Suffered a stroke or mini stroke
  • Bleeding from the fron or back passage
  • Problems when passing urine
  • Have visited your GP/A&E/ hospital recently for any other problem
